Cynicism
As the elections approach and the major parties heat up their campaigns, it just seems to give us more reasons to be more cynical.
Every utterance is analyzed, spun and blended until nobody knows where anybody really stands. And that's all that really counts. Keeping the people off-balance is the name of the game.
Woodward and Bernstein advised, "Follow the money" -- and those in power are doing their best to distract any scrutiny from the economy. Hollow assurances that everything is fine is good enough for most people. Pay attention to the economy is perilously close to arithmetic.
So we will talk about moral issues and values instead of the economy, mortgages, bail-outs, inflation, unemployment and other unpleasant issues.
While the Evangelicals are waiting for the Rapture -- we are simply waiting for people to wake up and smell the coffee.
